AI-Enhanced Virtual Nursing

Overview Resources

Project Overview

Nursing is the nation's largest healthcare profession. The COVID-19 pandemic, the retirement of baby boomer nurses, a rising aging population, and a lack of nurse educators drove nursing shortages to a tipping point across the country. Nursing shortage is the primary reason behind hospitals not having bed availability to provide adequate services to meet the needs of their community.

One solution to the staffing shortage is implementation of a ‘state of the art’ centralized virtual nursing program. The Center for Telehealth has implemented a virtual nursing pilot program at the adult hospital of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The pilot program has shown increased bedside nursing satisfaction as well as increased patient satisfaction and reduction in turnover rate. Beginning Feb/March 2025 we implemented an AI solution to enhance the capabilities of the existing program.
