Trauma-Focused Behavioral Health for Children in Rural & Medically Underserved Areas

Overview Resources

Project Overview

The Telehealth Outreach Program for Traumatic Stress (TOP-TS) is a novel program developed in 2015 to provide evidence-based trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) via telehealth for children and adolescents. The COE TOP-TS team will tailor and scale the existing curriculum to train and support mental health providers and agencies to effectively implement TF-CBT via telehealth for youth/families in rural and medically underserved areas in mainland US and Puerto Rico. Moreover, the TOP-TS team will leverage the COE’s implementation science expertise to inform and evaluate their dissemination efforts. Additionally, the TOP-TS team will implement a Randomized Controlled Trial comparing in-office delivery of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to telehealth delivered TF-CBT for children and adolescents. Currently no published studies exist in the literature for a randomized controlled trial of any trauma focused treatment delivered via telehealth with children and adolescents. Thus, this study has the potential to significantly impact the field.
