Individualized Tele-Nutrition for Patients with Chronic Disease

Overview Resources

Project Overview

The Mississippi health system cares for a significant portion of the adult population with diabetes, obesity, and other nutrition-related diseases. Medical Nutrition Therapy(MNT) administered by a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) has been shown to have a significant impact on patient outcomes. Mississippi provides MNTcoverage under MedicarePart B but is limited to patients with diabetes and non-dialysis kidney disease. Medicare will cover three hours of MNT the initial year of referral and up to two hours of MNT for subsequent years. As an organization, due to costs associated with required Medicare provider enrollment as well as pre-authorization, RDNs delivering outpatient MNT do not bill for face-to-face or telehealth services.
