The purpose of the dentistry learning community model (DLCM) is to provide patient case-based information to pediatric dentists, general dentists, and nurses practicing in rural communities. In a needs assessment survey of rural Mississippi dentists, education in pediatric dentistry was a high priority area of need identified by the participants. The DLCM will enhance the care capabilities of rural dentists nd nurses by focusing on a major disease burden - childhood dental caries. Health care providers (dentists and nurses) need to be aware of current best practices for enhancing the care capabilities of rural dentists and nurses by focusing on a major disease burden.
