New Publication! Telehealth Outreach Program for Child Traumatic Stress: Strategies for Long-Term Sustainability

The MUSC Telehealth for Trauma team has a new publication available in healthcare, which shares findings from a mixed-methods approach, where data were collected on telehealth implementation processes and facilitators and barriers to the delivery of telehealth TF-CBT. This study was guided by an adapted implementation science framework, namely the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS) model. Interviews and surveys were completed with clinical site leaders who had participated in the telehealth TF-CBT training. The feedback gained from this project assisted in the development of implementation strategies for increased adoption and sustainment of TF-CBT delivered via telehealth. Evidence-based Trauma Treatment in Puerto Rico

Drs. Regan W. Stewart and Rosaura Orengo-Aguayo’s team has been collaborating with one of the largest community mental health organizations in Puerto Rico to provide training and technical assistance in trauma-focused assessment and treatment in person and via telehealth. Through this initiative, this agency now provides evidence-based trauma, depression and anxiety screening to all Puerto Rican youth who seek services in these clinics across the island, and has certified therapists in evidence-based trauma treatment. CDC and NORC publishes an evaluation article on MUSC's Telestroke Progam!

The MUSC Center of Excellence and Telestroke Program recently collaborated with the CDC and NORC at the University of Chicago on an evaluation of MUSC’s telestroke program. The evaluation examined how two components of stroke care infrastructure - stroke coordinators and stroke center certifications -- were related to stroke quality-of-care outcomes in MUSC’s telestroke program.

Dr. Regan Stewart presented at the MATRC Summit on Trauma Treatment in the Digital Age!

Dr. Regan Stewart (MUSC), participated in a Trauma Treatment in the Digital Age panel at the MATRC Summit on April 14th! She was joined by Marcy Rosenbaum (Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems), Billy Rutherford (Hershel Woody Williams VA Medical Center), and Rachel Harrison (Trauma Specialists of Maryland). Together they discussed best practices for effectively using telehealth for delivering evidence-based therapies, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). They also shared a glimpse at how virtual reality technologies are being used to supercharge trauma therapy. Participants were able to participate in demonstrations of various platforms and simulation environments to experience the power of Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) for PTSD. Dr. Stewart discussed telehealth best practices for delivering evidence-based therapies, including her experience with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).  Click here to see her slides!
