The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the US Department of Health and Human Services, awarded the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of Mississippi Medical Center a national designation as Telehealth Centers of Excellences (COEs). The COEs focus on the efficiency of telehealth services in rural and urban areas and serve as national clearinghouses for telehealth research and resources, including technical assistance. The COEs are in public academic medical centers that have successful telehealth programs with high annual volume of telehealth visits and have established programs that provide telehealth services in medically underserved areas with high chronic disease prevalence and high poverty rates.
